Official Sustainable Living tour press release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 17, 2007
GOSHEN, INDIANA. Coming up with practical solutions to the region's complex environmental issues is daunting task. One local organization has found a way to showcase simple ideas which address these difficult challenges. Each year, Michiana Earth Group organizes the “Sustainable Living Tour” which features local individuals, businesses and farms who have implemented useful strategies to enhance soil, water, and air quality.
“The earth is our house and we share a big responsibility to take care of it,” said Earth Group spokesperson, Phyllis Stutzman. “Tour visitors should enjoy meeting local people who are doing exemplary housekeeping.”
Saturday, April 28, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. mark the upcoming event date and time. Maps for the tour are available on the organization’s Web site: michianaearthgroup.org. The 2007 Sustainable Living Tour includes three cities in Northern Indiana: South Bend, Elkhart and Goshen. Tour attendees can visit any of the regional locations.
Those who take the self-guided tour will have the opportunity to visit local homes which integrate innovative energy-saving technology, learn best practices for land enhancement through landscaping and gardening, gather information on organic farming and gardening and learn more about local environmental issues and solutions to address them.
The public can learn more creative approaches to environmental issues through other Earth Group initiatives. “The Michiana Earth Group meets monthly to share ideas and inspiration, offer support, and plan educational actions that promote good stewardship of the earth,” said Earth Group member, Lois Hess Nafziger. “These meetings provide a great way for people to connect and make a positive impact in our local community.”
The Sustainable Living tour was made possible by support from the Goshen Farmers Market as well as other anonymous donors.
The Sustainable living tour is an annual event coordinated by the Michiana Mennonite Earth Group, a regional organization which teaches, demonstrates, and advocates practical and innovative ways in which local individuals and businesses can improve air and water quality and enhance responsible land use.
The Sustainable Living Tour provides practical resources and solutions for sustainable living.
